Dialogical action in art For thirty years Barbara Holub’s socially and politically engaged art has linked urban development, social issues, and artistic interventions. As an accumulative process of participatory action, Holub’s projects question the role of art in society, whether in the context of art itself, in urban public space, or in relation to corporations. En 2011, le peuple en Egypte et L'Afrique du Nord a occupé les espaces publics pour réclamer leur droit de démocratie. Ils ont redéfini l'espace comme un acteur politique et ont revendiqué la propriété de ces espaces publics.
L'existence de nouveaux formes de médias a conduit à une nouvelle définition des lieux, il les a rendu encore plus complexe avec des cartes de tweets et événements Facebook en ajoutant une nouvelle couche (layer) de virtualité à l'identité géographique des lieux tels que la place Tahrir en Egypte. 
Maintenant, les régimes oppressifs empêchent toute protestation de groupe de réoccuper la place, en utilisant la brutalité policière et imposant des interventions urbaines telles que les murs et les portes gardées. En plus, ils ont effacés toutes les œuvres d'art et liés à la révolution, il efface le souvenir visuel de l'endroit pour essayer d’éliminer toute rappel de la puissance une fois obtenue par les citoyens.

A critical introduction to the design of public spaces The way public spaces are designed reflects the period in which they were created. However, in our globalized world of experience and images the desire for uniqueness tends to achieve the opposite: increasingly, designers of open spaces resort to the same devices and thereby distance themselves from the urban context. The author analyzes ten outstanding contemporary designs of public spaces in Europe in terms of their function in the urban context and what materials are used for their implementation. In interviews with the designers she retraces the changes of the concepts during the design stage of the projects, underpinning her findings with numerous sketches. In addition, her research focuses on how the projects were received in the community. Commonly used and designed open spaces are anchor points in the city and a possible response to the consequences of urbanization and climate change, as well as to the presence of social and cultural differences. This book explores the role of add-ons in urban open spaces: specific components for the cultivation of food, water, energy, and material production, as well as for economic and social resources. The book asks how these added elements create more resilient and sustainable urban spaces, by responding to the needs and preferences of residents and by forming connections to the surrounding urban environment. Scientific texts and opinion papers of international experts provide a unique interdisciplinary discourse depicting the diversity of add-ons from a range of micro- and macro-perspectives, and offering strategies for collaborative, multi-coded urban spaces at the intersection of architecture and open space planning.
